Mai Type is a type design practice by Thy Hà, focused on creating accessible fonts and supporting Vietnamese localisation.

Based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia, the practice is shaped by a love of type, language, culture, and importantly, a lot of boba. The name Mai comes from Thy’s middle name. In Vietnamese, mai also means tomorrow, and refers to a flower that blooms across southern Vietnam during Tết. For Thy, who was born and raised in Sài Gòn, Việt Nam, the name carries a sense of memory, place, and possibility.

Thy Hà (she/her), known as Hà Mai Thy in Vietnamese, is a designer and researcher specialising in web design, type design, and cross-cultural communication. She is currently working on a PhD at RMIT University researching Vietnamese font localisation.

When you buy a font from Mai Type, you are puchase a licence to use it, rather than ownership of the font itself.

Mai Type uses purchasing power parity pricing (PPP), which adjusts automatically based on where you are purchasing from. This approach is inspired by foundries such as Counter Forms, and is made possible on this site through Fontdue as Fair Price Adjustment feature.
